Straight answers to the questions employers ask us most: about benefits, compliance basics, and what it is like to work with Kandelaki Solutions. Do not see your question? Contact us. We like questions.
What does an employee benefits broker actually do?
A benefits broker helps employers design, purchase, and manage employee benefits: mainly group health insurance, plus dental, vision, life, and disability. A good broker also guides renewals, supports compliance, and answers employee questions year-round. Think of us as your benefits department without the overhead of hiring one.
How is Kandelaki Solutions different from a large brokerage?
We are independent and intentionally sized so you always know who you are talking to. Large brokerages can be excellent, but clients sometimes feel like account numbers. With us, you get senior-level attention, plain-English explanations, and a team that remembers your business, because relationships are the whole model..
We are a small business. Are we too small for group benefits?
Probably not. Businesses with just a handful of employees can offer meaningful group benefits, and many of our clients started exactly where you are. The right plan structure and contribution strategy matter more than company size. We will give you an honest read on what makes sense, including telling you if waiting is smarter..
How do you get paid?
We are an independent brokerage. Like most brokers, we are typically compensated through commissions included in the carrier’s pricing. We will explain exactly how we are paid before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises and no pressure to move forward until you are comfortable.
Do you work with businesses outside New Jersey?
We are based in Manalapan, New Jersey, and many of our clients are NJ employers, but we are licensed in 25+ states. so we regularly serve businesses with teams across state lines. If your workforce is spread out, we will make sure your benefits strategy accounts for every location.
What happens at renewal time?
Each year your carrier proposes new rates. We do not accept the first number.. We review your claims experience, market your coverage to other carriers, and negotiate from data. Then we present your options clearly, with our honest recommendation. Our flagship Enterprise Strategy service takes this even further with a full benefit audit.
Can you help with ACA reporting?
Yes. Applicable large employers face annual ACA reporting requirements, and the forms and deadlines can be confusing. We help you understand what applies to your business, coordinate the information your payroll or reporting vendor needs, and keep required employee notices on track, so compliance stays a routine, not a fire drill..
What is ERISA, and does it apply to our company?
ERISA is the federal law that sets standards for most employer-sponsored benefit plans: things like having a written plan document and giving employees a summary plan description. It applies to most private-sector employers of any size. We will explain what it means for you in plain English, but it is education, not legal advice.
What is COBRA in plain English?
COBRA is the federal rule that lets employees and their families keep group health coverage for a limited time after leaving a job or another qualifying event, usually at their own cost plus a small admin fee. Employers have notice and administration duties. We will walk you through what is required.
How long does it take to set up a new benefits program?
Typically four to eight weeks from our first conversation to your effective date, depending on plan complexity and carrier timelines. Simple ancillary benefits can move faster. We will give you a realistic timeline up front and manage the paperwork, so setup feels organized instead of chaotic.
Do you help our employees directly with their questions?
Yes, that is one of the most valuable parts of working with us.. When an employee has a claims issue, a billing question, or does not understand their coverage, they can reach our team instead of guessing or waiting on hold with a carrier. Fewer headaches for them, fewer interruptions for you.
What should we have ready for our first conversation?
Just a rough sense of your headcount, your current benefits (if any), and what is frustrating you about them. Current carrier invoices or renewal letters help if you have them, but do not let paperwork delay the call. We can start with a conversation. and gather details together.
